Celsiwhyus and WhattheFahrenheit

Oh my, yes.

Thinking, I have been--and it occurs to me (upon looking through my site's stats and where my audience is based) that just because I am familiar with Celsius as a measurement of temperature and view Fahrenheit as some strange, decimal-dotted monster that I am reluctant to understand doesn't mean that I don't or may one day have readers that view Fahrenheit as a logical succession of precise temperatures and Celsius as some ice ridden, weird set of mindless measurements.

And thus, I have done something simple: I added a bracket with the value in Fahrenheit beside each of my Celsius recordings in Grow-A-Garden Chronicles--which has once again been treated to its daily update, describing yesterday's growth of my favorite little seedlings. ^.^

Because I like to give credit (although I could have picked any of the conversion tables available, or used my phone) I found the Fahrenheit values here. If not of use, I find this little informative additive to my site's seedling escapades interesting if naught else and thus I will be sure to continue to add both sets of measurement to my updates.

The first pepper to sprout is... -drum roll-

I'm starting to think I could have made a blog just for the garden, but where's the fun in singular content? I had to write a laptop note to self so I don't forget some of the things I want to post. Neat x 2!

...Still seriously going to show you more seed pictures first, though. I love them!

...And the excitement continued with my significant other and I eyeballing the two pots that have yet to sprout--the Kung Pao and the Jalapeno--and lo and behold, there is what appeared to be a seed surfacing and cracking open.

I was hopeful--for the Cilantro did this as well just before the first one sprouted--but then the Cilantro seeds were huge compared to the other ones I purchased and planted.

Nevertheless, I awaken today to not one, but two Jalapeno sprouts! Observe:

Marvelous! I am supremely pleased with all of my seedlings growth rate--now, if that Kung Pao would just sprout...

The moon, modest poetic lines, and more seeds.

"I am waiting on the rise of the full moon--true, 'tis going to be behind a washed grey and weeping cloud--but my seeds and I shall haunt the windows on this rain hewn night until the first hint of hidden silver light."

In my endeavoring to create a twitter and facebook post every few days at least, I am apparently being poetic. In the spirit of what may one day be a poetry section more than a sparse handful of posts in my blog, I am trying to record my little moments of inspiration for more than just myself. Of course the 'secret societies' that run those websites already know, but for me (or you) who may look back on this in wonder and wanderlust one day, a record for the brief moments of believed brilliance may prove beneficial.

In true obsessive style, here are more pictures of my dirt disturbing sprouting seeds:

...and the show-stopping, super-sprouting

In case for whatever reason you can't tell or are too lazy to enlarge the pictures (with the times I have to view these I can not blame you for being choosy), the order is Cilantro, Oregano, 100 Hybrid Tomato, Parsley and Basil. These pictures were taken before their first and only watering today, seeing the fact that it has been overcast and cool (an average of 17 degrees Celsius outside) all day.

Due to their following of the sun and now the overhead light, I am leaving them in the window tonight. I've heard that plants benefit from moonlight, so in the interest of not moving my steadily establishing seedlings from the windowsill yet again tonight and the hope of lunar light they shall remain as they are. Signing off to go and update today's log entry of Operation Grow-A-Garden Chronicles, a rather tired yet pleased ŊetHerŊøte. ^.^

Two new recipes and speaking of seeds.

A busy little bee I have been, blogging away here...
Well, not so much blogging as working on my blog.
So in a way, yes, blogging. I'll leave it at that, it simplifies things. ^.^

In addition to more updates to Operation Grow-A-Garden Chronicles,

I have added two new recipes to Rice Is My Friend!

Behold, the two newest recipes in my growing online stack of same:

This little baby was simply divine, and is called Sour Cream & Onion Salmon.

This salad is a creation that I never seem to get bored of: a Chef's Salad.

Check them out! Both recipes are infinitely adaptable to your personal tastes (I really notice that I wind up typing "I used ______, but you could use whatever you'd like" in a lot of my recipes. I also have yet to encounter a recipe that I cannot alter to be non-dairy. Neat!)

It's been a decent weekend so far, with me accomplishing more than I was expecting to and being pleasantly surprised by the early arrival of my sprouts. So far the only things that have yet to show signs of growing are my Jalapenos and Kung Pao. This is not astonishing me--they require more growth time and perhaps even more warmth than I have been providing. I, however, will not walk around my house naked with all the windows closed and the drapes and blinds open just to keep it warm enough in here for pepper seeds to sprout in two week's time.

Soon I shall be off here with my phone in hand to take some more pictures of my ever-growing sprouts--some of them are large enough to be bending towards the sun already. This time I am going to be sure that I take multiples of each set so I don't get stuck uploading a couple of less-than-focused pics.

Case in point: Yesterday's update of Operation Grow-A-Garden Chronicles, featuring:

Bluregano.

Blursil.

...and

Smearlantro.

Other than that I have been toying with the notion of taping the seed packages to the sides of the bowls for quick identification, but found a better solution today. Since the beginning, I have just made sure to keep the corresponding seed package (and thus the name of the plant and care instructions) tucked under the bottom of the bowl.

Why I--being somewhat of an artist,
a chronic graffiti tagger 'personalizer' of my things
and the keeper of what seems like a trillion pens and felts--did not think of it sooner,
I may never know. I took my black Sony sharpie (it came with a pack of blank CD's my significant other bought years ago) and simply labeled the lip of the bowls.

The seed packages are still pinned beneath the pots, but they no longer have to be. ^.^

I am going to attempt to make the label predominant in my photos from now on for speedy recognition and huge simplification of my 'labeling' process at this, the seedling stage. More updates to follow as my mind churns over other potential content.

First Sprout

And thus, on Friday the 18th of May,
I water the plants at approximately 5:30, 6:00 in the morning and then work on my blog before retiring for a nap. (Don't ask why I was up so early ^.^)

I awaken some time after eleven again that morning, and I meander into the kitchen to secure some coffee and Rooibos tea. Naturally, my eyes are drawn to my latest project:

the seeds.

Only 4 days after planting,

my first sprout appears!

And the winner is:

.
..
...
....

Oregano!

I shall call it: `Shades of Me`

Yet another addition, and thus a quick post:

Look! I added a new picture of me! Tired of the old black and white one, I was.
And thus, here it is. I have added it to the bottom of my page as my bio picture.

See the sky in the reflection of my sunglasses?
This picture was taken the same day that I snapped the photo for the background of my blog.

...You know, if I keep posting random little things throughout my day then I could actually get that mythical ten posts a day trophy that sits on the imaginary shelf in Whocaresville. I am pondering downloading the app for Blogger on my phone--you know, to see what it is like. There could be potential there--or it could be like my twitter and facebook accounts: kinda slow in the status\tweet area of things. Perhaps if I did something exciting besides look for work and take care of plants and cook in my spare time, then I would be yammering on about how `something` my life is.

Currently, I am making damn sure that I keep myself busy--when I look at the accumulation of what I have accomplished in a day, I feel better and thus I am much less likely to become depressed. Sure, poems can come out of that emotion--but so can many other not so desirable things.

Other than that, I added more links and decided what I was going to do with the Operation Begin-A-Garden page. I also added in calendar pictures (`anticipated schedule`, as duplicated below). Plant ALL the things.

Operation Begin-A-Garden is a Go!

Ah yes, what have I done for you lately?
More done for me, I'd say--but most certainly here for you to enjoy, I have launched yet another page.

No, this one is not gluten free recipes or free Google Play apps--this is going to be a growth log of my little indoor garden.

Interested? Here is the whole back story (complete with pictures and done up in blog post style) of my foray into fresh herb, pepper and tomato creation:

Operation Begin-A-Garden

How exactly I am going to lay out the whole thing is still up in the air (or up somewhere in my mind) and it will remain to be seen just how I decide to set up the page.

There are also numerous other ideas (dangerous, I know) drifting around in my head that make me want to create a 'craft corner' on my site as well. Perhaps I will--I already have a few pictures (which is somehow all I seem to need) of a project that I undertook and completed--with success, may I add.

In the spirit of posting pictures, here is one that you will not find on Operation Begin-A-Garden but has everything to do with it. An informative teaser, if you will. ^.^

...And that is what I have planted and eagerly await the rise of, like some sort of green thumbed necromancer. I can already imagine how many pictures I am going to take of the same damn sprout when the first one appears--I'll be treating it like it's a celebrity or something. ^.^

In other news, I have once again attacked my blog's appearance. The layout itself I am finally happy with, and along with altering some of the wording here and there I have added my own background picture, taken and uploaded specifically as a back drop to this blog--which is something I have been meaning to do for a very long time and I must say I am very happy with the result. Now, I am off to take some more pictures of my precious pots of... eh... soil and seeds. ^.^
